The John E. Stauffer Papers contain the professional and personal papers of John E. Stauffer. The collection is arranged into the following twelve series:

Sub-series Description

Arranged alphabetically by subject, this sub-series contains Stauffer Chemical Company Subsidiary and Associated Company Files, which were collected and maintained by John E. Stauffer. Most of the subsidiaries and associated companies represented in these files were Stauffer Chemical’s joint ventures with other chemical firms, including American Chemical Corporation, Stauffer-Hoechst Polymer Corporation, and Texas Alkyls, Incorporated. A few subsidiaries that were wholly owned by Stauffer Chemical, including Cowles Chemical Company and Stauffer Argentina SAIC are also represented in this sub-series. Two files concerning Chesebrough-Ponds, Incorporated, which purchased Stauffer Chemical in 1985, are also found here.

The files in this sub-series document the activities of a number of Stauffer Chemical Company’s subsidiaries and associated companies during John E. and Hans Stauffer’s tenures with the firm. Documentation of John E. and Hans Stauffer’s involvement in the subsidiaries’ and associated companies' activities is also found here.

The contents of the Subsidiary and Associated Company Files consist of a variety of materials. Correspondence, articles, reports, and financial documents are the most common materials found the in this sub-series. Smaller, but noticeable, amounts of notes, publications, and press releases are also present in these files. Small amounts of other miscellaneous materials, including, but not limited to, legal documents, meeting minutes, advertisements, and vinyl samples, are preserved here as well.
