Sub-series Description
Arranged alphabetically by publisher, this sub-series contains printed materials pertaining to various subjects regarding food quality assurance and food safety which were collected and maintained by John E. Stauffer. Stauffer drew upon some of these printed materials when conducting research for his book Quality Assurance of Food: Ingredients, Processing and Distribution. A large majority of these materials were collected by Stauffer as President of Stauffer Technology. A handful items which were probably collected by Stauffer while he was working at Stauffer Chemical Company are also found here.
The printed materials in this sub-series were published by a variety of for-profit and non-profit entities involved in various aspects of food quality assurance and food safety. Food processing equipment manufacturers, professional and industry associations, and United States government agencies are the most common entities represented in the Printed Materials. Materials published by other miscellaneous entities, including, but not limited to, food chemical manufacturers and food testing equipment manufacturers are also present here.
The contents of the Printed Materials consist of a variety of materials. Sales literature, which includes brochures, information sheets, and a small amount of accompanying correspondence, makes up the largest component of the materials in this sub-series. Smaller, but noticeable, numbers of publications, periodicals, and newsletters are also present in the Printed Materials. Other miscellaneous printed materials, including, but not limited to, articles and reprints are preserved here as well.
