The collection deals with the operations of the Stauffer research team and some of the personalities involved in it.

Abstract

This is a collection of papers (largely memos and reports) marketing materials, reprints and some patent files relating to the activities of the Stauffer Chemical Company and many other manufacturers of reaction intermediates. Chemical instruments and ephemera were also donated to CHF by James E. Cochran. Photographs and some audio-visual materials have been removed from the collection.

Scope and content This collection has been divided into two series, Student Notebooks, 1943-1944 + [n.d.] and Memoir, 1995-1998. The first series consists of notes taken by Hwa while attending chemistry clases at St. John's University in China during World War II. The notes cover basic chemistry courses, crystal chemistry, industrial chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, qualitative analysis, and thermodynamics.
