Sub-series Description
Arranged alphabetically by subject, this sub-series contains the Syntex Syva Alumni Association's negative collection. A large majority of the images in this sub-series were created by Syntex Corporation and its corporate successor Roche Bioscience. A few images created by the Syntex Employee Recreation Association, a predecessor of the Syntex Syva Alumni Association, are also found here. Most of the negatives in this sub-series are of photographs preserved in Sub-series 1 - Photographs. Many of images in this series were used for employee and public relations purposes.
The images found in the Negatives sub-series concern a wide variety of subjects. A majority of the images are of Syntex social functions and community service activities. A large number of images of Syntex facilities, most notably those of the firm's Palo Alto, California campus are also found in this sub-series. Also present in the Negatives sub-series are a significant number of images of Syntex executives, including Chief Executive Officers Albert Bowers and Paul Freiman, and President John Fried. Smaller numbers of images concerning a number of other miscellaneous subjects pertaining to Syntex Corporation, including, but not limited to, staff members, research activities, and business activities are preserved here as well.
35 millimeter negative strips make up the bulk of the materials in this sub-series. A handful of negatives of other various sizes are also found here.
