Series Description

This series contains materials pertaining to the history of products manufactured by Spinco over the course of its existence. Most of the materials in this series were created by the Spinco Division under the ownership of Beckman Instruments, Incorporated, SmithKline Corporation, and Beckman Coulter, Incorporated. A small amount of materials created by Specialized Instruments Corporation are also present.

The Product History Files are arranged numerically by file number in an order established by a group of former Spinco employees. A large majority of the files concern the history of individual instruments (including centrifuges, electrophoresis equipment, and amino acid analyzers), instrument series, and instrument components and accessories (including rotors and tubes). A small number of files regarding the general history of Spinco are also found here.

The contents of the Product History Files consist mainly of printed materials, which include, but are not limited to, technical bulletins, application notes, data sheets, brochures, instruction manuals, periodicals, and advertisements. A large amount photographic materials, including photographs, negatives, transparencies, and slides are also found within these files. Small amounts of other types of materials, including, but not limited to, photocopied correspondence, photocopied notes, photocopied manuscripts, and photocopied articles are present in the Product History Files. A small number of award plaques are preserved in this series as well.

The Product History Files also contain index sheets, which list the individual items found within the folders.
