Series Description

This series contains Eugene Garfield's subject files. Arranged alphabetically by subject, the materials in this series mainly document Garfield's professional endeavors. To a significant extent, they also document ISI, including its operations and products. Subjects covered by these files include Garfield's friends and colleagues, institutions such as universities and corporations, and professional organizations. Files pertaining to ISI matters and miscellaneous topics that were of interest to Garfield and ISI staff are also found here.

The Subject Files contain a wide variety of materials. Correspondence makes up a majority of the materials found within the Subject Files. Significant amounts of periodical and newspaper articles, publications, periodicals, article reprints, and miscellaneous printed materials are also found in this series. Smaller, but noticeable, amounts of notes, copies of conference papers, paper manuscripts, article manuscripts, webpage printouts, reports, legal documents, and proposals are also preserved in this series. Small amounts of many other types of materials, including, but not limited to, press releases, government documents, bibliography printouts, photographs, audio tapes, floppy disks, and CD-ROMS are found here as well.

General Note

NOTE – A handful of empty files labelled "File Empty" are present in the Subject Files. These files are kept here because they were determined to be an integral part of the sub-series. It is believed that these files formerly contained materials that are now missing.
