Sub-series Description
Arranged numerically by file number (1, 2, 3, etc.), this sub-series is comprised of journal articles, book chapters, conference presentations, letters to the editor, and reports written and co-written by Eugene Garfield. Altogether there are nearly 500 works authored and co-authored by Garfield. This sub-series begins with Garfield's first article “Bang Those Robot Heads Together,” which was published in Chemical and Engineering News in 1952. A handful of articles not written by Garfield are also found here. The transparencies Garfield used for some of his speeches and presentations can be found in Series X of this collection.
Article, book chapter, presentation, letter to the editor, and report manuscripts make up a majority of the materials in these files. Noticeable amounts of periodical and newspaper articles, periodicals, copies of conference papers, article reprints, publications, and correspondence are also preserved in this sub-series. Small amounts of a variety of other materials, including, but not limited to, webpage printouts, article proofs, transparencies, photographs, and floppy disks are found here as well.
General Note
NOTE – A handful of empty files labelled "File Empty" are present in the Numerical Files. These files are kept here because they were determined to be an integral part of the sub-series. It is believed that these files formerly contained materials that are now missing.
