The Papers of Jerome B. Schapiro contain organizational records collected and maintained by American chemical engineer and dry cleaning industry executive Jerome B. Schapiro. The files in this collection document Schapiro’s involvement with several policy making and advocacy organizations concerned with textile product and safety standards. The collection is arranged into the following six series:

Series Description

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a non-governmental organization. Founded in 1947 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the ISO’s membership is comprised of standards organizations from 165 member countries. It develops standards for a huge range of products, processes, services, and materials. ISO standards are often codified into the law throughout the world. Jerome B. Schapiro was an active member of the ISO, serving on several of the organization’s technical committees and subcommittees, including the Textiles Committee (TC-38) and the Consumer Questions Committee (TC-73).

This series contains Jerome B. Schapiro’s International Organization for Standardization files, which document his activities with the organization, including his service on its Textiles Committee and Consumer Questions Committee. Consisting of three boxes of materials, the contents of each individual box are arranged chronologically by year. The contents of the files in this series include ISO reports and correspondence.
