Scope and Content
The Papers of Jerome B. Schapiro contain organizational records collected and maintained by American chemical engineer and dry cleaning industry executive Jerome B. Schapiro. The files in this collection document Schapiro’s involvement with several policy making and advocacy organizations concerned with textile product and safety standards. The collection is arranged into the following six series:

Series Description
The National Institute of Drycleaning (NID) was an American trade association for garment care businesses and professionals. Jerome B. Schapiro, as President of Dixo Company, Incorporated, a supplier of dry cleaning products, was an active member of the organization. The National Institute of Drycleaning was renamed the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute in 2007.
Arranged chronologically by year, this series contains Jerome B. Schapiro’s National Institute of Drycleaning files, which document his activities with the organization. The contents of the files in this series include correspondence, convention materials, reports, and technical information.
