Sub-series Description
Arranged alphabetically by subject, this sub-series contains Kurt M. Mislow’s alphabetical correspondence files. The bulk of the materials in the Alphabetical Correspondence Files are professional in nature. A small amount of personal materials are also preserved here.
Correspondence files regarding other chemists make up the bulk of this sub-series. Files containing Mislow’s correspondence with several prominent chemists, including Carl Djerassi, Vladimir Prelog, and Paul von Rague Schleyer are found in this sub-series. Several of the chemists represented in this sub-series were collaborators with Mislow, including Chengzhi Liang and Noham Weinberg. Correspondence files regarding several chemists who were graduate students or post-doctoral fellows supervised by Mislow, including Dennis A. Dougherty, Mark M. Green, and Jay S. Siegel are also preserved here.
In addition to Mislow’s correspondence with other chemists, smaller, but noticeable, numbers of files regarding universities, fellowships (including Mislow’s Guggenheim Fellowships), and awards (including Mislow’s Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award and William H. Nichols Award) are also preserved in this sub-series. Small numbers of files regarding scientific institutions, countries, and a few other miscellaneous subjects are also found here.
The contents of the Alphabetical Correspondence Files consist of a wide variety of materials. Letters and e-mails make up a large majority of the materials in this sub-series. Significant amounts of journal articles, article reprints, article and paper manuscripts, curricula vitae, and notes are found in these files. Smaller, but noticeable, amounts of magazine articles, newspaper articles, memoranda, and award nominations are also present in this sub-series. Small amounts of other miscellaneous materials, including, but not limited to, postcards, holiday cards, photocopied book chapters, and a few photographs are preserved here as well.
