Sub-series Description
Arranged alphabetically by subject, this sub-series contains Richard W. Dodson’s scientific notebooks, which document research he conducted between 1934 and 1989. Eighteen of the notebooks concern his research as an undergraduate at the California Institute of Technology, and as a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University. Fifteen of the notebooks concern research conducted by Dodson and his colleagues Günther Dulz, Barbara E. Kream, and Kathleen McLinskey at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The remaining eight notebooks regard research conducted by Dodson as a scientist at the California Institute of Technology, and Columbia University respectively. The “Nuclear Notebooks” compiled by Dodson at Johns Hopkins and Cal Tech are of particular interest, because they document his early research into nuclear fission.
The contents of this sub-series consist mainly of bound notebooks. A handful of unbound notebooks are also found here. Two pocket notebooks are preserved in this sub-series as well.
