Sub-series Description
Arranged alphabetically by subject, this sub-series contains course files collected and maintained by William A. Lester, Jr. during his tenure as Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. These files provide documentation of undergraduate and graduate level courses taught by Lester and a few of his Department of Chemistry colleagues at Cal Berkeley. A large majority of the files in this sub-series concern courses taught or co-taught by Lester himself. A few files concerning courses not taught by Lester are also present in this sub-series. A single file containing materials documenting Lester’s meetings with Cal Berkeley colleague Paul A. Bartlett regarding teaching is also found here.
The contents of the Course Files consist of a variety of materials. Exams, homework assignments, and notes are the most common materials found in this sub-series. Smaller, but noticeable, amounts of correspondence, course syllabi, quizzes, articles, and teaching assignments are also present in these files. Small amounts of other miscellaneous materials, including, but not limited to, book lists, exam schedules, student papers, and transparencies are preserved here as well.
