Sub-series Description
Arranged numerically by publication number (as listed in William A. Lester, Jr’s publication list in Box 49 Folder 13), this sub-series contains William A. Lester Jr.’s Numerical Publication Files. The materials in this sub-series concern most of the publications authored and co-authored by Lester between 1968 and 2012. Science journal articles make up the bulk of the publications represented in this sub-series. Published conference papers, book chapters, University of Wisconsin-Madison publications, and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory publications are also covered in these files. The books Recent Advances in Quantum Monte Carlo and Recent Advances in Quantum Monte Carlo Methods. Part II, which were edited and co-edited respectively by Lester, are also represented here.
The Numerical Publication Files provide documentation of chemical research conducted by Lester and his collaborators, including his work on atom-molecule scattering, molecular collisions, computational chemistry, and his use of Quantum Monte Carlo methods. They also provide documentation of Lester’s efforts to get his work published and disseminated to the scientific community.
Manuscripts (typed and handwritten), correspondence, reprint requests, publication proofs, and reprints are the most common materials found in the Numerical Publication Files. Smaller, but noticeable, amounts of notes, articles, and legal documents (publication agreements and copyright assignments) are also present in this sub-series. Small amounts of other miscellaneous materials, including, but not limited to, a publication list, research data, referee reports, transparencies, and photographs are preserved here as well.
