Sub-series Description

Arranged alphabetically by subject, this sub-series contains the Microscopy Society of America’s Subject Files. A majority of the files here were generated when the organization was known as the Electron Microscope Society of America (EMSA) and the Electron Microscopy Society of America (EMSA) respectively. These files concern various subjects that were of interest to the society’s staff and membership. Files concerning the society’s membership, archives (which were donated to the Science History Institute in September 2020), and China Exchange Program make up the largest components of this sub-series. Small numbers of files concerning other miscellaneous subjects, including, but not limited to, legal and financial affairs, society awards, and conferences and symposia not organized by the society are also present here.

The contents of the Subject Files consist of a wide variety of materials. Correspondence, notes, lists, and articles are the most common materials found in the Subject Files. Smaller, but noticeable, amounts of publications, legal documents, financial documents, and resumes are also present in this sub-series. Small amounts of other miscellaneous materials, including, but not limited to, reports, brochures, and photographs are preserved here as well.
