Series Description
The Society of Flavor Chemists (SFC) is an American non-profit professional organization for flavor chemists. The SFC was founded in 1954 by a group of flavor chemists meeting informally at the Chemists Club in New York City, who saw the need for an organization that would serve to advance their professional interests and improve their professional status.
Incorporated in the State of New York in 1959 and currently headquartered in Neptune Township, New Jersey, the SFC devotes itself to the purpose of advancing the field of flavor creation, flavor technology, and related sciences. It seeks to promote professional discourse and uphold professional standards within the flavorist community. To achieve these ends, the Society sponsors and conducts meetings, presents education programs, organizes symposia, and offers scholarships to students.
Kent R. Zeller is a longtime member of the SFC. He joined the organization in 1975 and has served as its Newsletter Chairman, Treasurer, Vice President, President (1986-1987), and Chairman of the Board.
Arranged alphabetically by subject, this series contains Kent R. Zeller’s Society of Flavor Chemists Files, which he collected and maintained as a member of the organization. The files in this series provide a limited amount of information regarding the society’s membership and activities.
The contents of the Society of Flavor Chemists Files consist of a variety of materials. By-laws and membership rosters are the most common items found in this series. Small amounts of other miscellaneous materials, including, but not limited to, papers, correspondence, notes, articles, and reprints are preserved here as well.
