The Albert Bowers and Gwynn Akin Bowers Papers contain the professional and personal papers of British organic chemist and pharmaceutical company executive Albert Bowers and American pharmaceutical company executive Gwynn Akin Bowers. The collection is arranged into the following seven series:

Sub-series Description

Arranged alphabetically by subject/publisher/author, this sub-series contains miscellaneous printed materials collected by Albert Bowers and Gwynn Akin Bowers. Most of the materials in this sub-series were collected during the Bowers’ respective tenures as Syntex Corporation executives. They provide information regarding the Albert Bowers’ professional, research, and extracurricular activities, Gwynn Akin Bowers’ professional and extracurricular activities, and of various subjects that were of interest to the couple. The printed materials also provide information regarding Syntex’s activities during the Bowers’ tenures with the firm.

Materials regarding Albert Bowers himself and Syntex Corporation make up the largest components of this sub-series. Smaller, but noticeable, amounts of printed materials published by Business Week, the Business-Higher Education Forum, and the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association are also present in the Miscellaneous Printed Materials. Small amounts of materials from other miscellaneous publishers, including the University of California, San Francisco and the California Business Roundtable are also found in this sub-series. Three files concerning Gwynn Akin Bowers herself are also preserved here.

Articles, periodicals, and publications are the most common items found in the Miscellaneous Printed Materials. Small amounts of other miscellaneous printed materials, including, but not limited to, newsletters, mimeographed manuscripts, and programs are also found in this sub-series. Small amounts of accompanying materials, including correspondence and notes are preserved in the Miscellaneous Printed Materials as well.
