Series Description

Arranged alphabetically by subject, this series contains Robert B. Cody’s JEOL Files, which he collected and maintained during his tenure with JEOL USA, Incorporated. This series provides some information regarding mass spectrometers and accessories manufactured by JEOL Limited and developed, marketed, and serviced by its American subsidiary (and Cody’s employer) JEOL USA, Incorporated. It also provides a small amount of technical information regarding mass spectrometers and accessories manufactured by two of JEOL’s competitors.

Four files concerning JEOL mass spectrometers, which pertain to the firm’s early JMS mass spectrometers and HX100 and HX110 mass spectrometers built for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County respectively, are found in this series. Three files containing manuscripts written by Robert B. Cody, including a training manual for JEOL’s Complement mass spectrometer data system and tutorials for using JEOL’s MSDS software for mass spectrometry are also present in this series. Three files regarding mass spectrometers manufactured by Analytica of Brandford, Incorporated and Sensar Corporation are also preserved here.

The contents of the JEOL Files consist of a variety of materials. Drawing reproductions, notes, manuscripts, and graphs are the most common materials found in this series. Small amounts of other miscellaneous materials, including, but not limited to, correspondence, price quotes, reports, and data sheets are preserved in these files as well.
