The collection consists of a group photograph from Fox's time in the Air Force, several portraits of Fox, and group shots from the Gordon Research Conference dating from the 1950s and 1960s. There are also multiple photographs of Fox with colleagues both at work and at social gatherings. The collection also contains several photos of Fox recreating his discovery of LEXAN in the laboratory. A trip to Europe with colleagues and trips Fox took to Japan are also documented. Rounding out the collection are slide presentations from Fox's lectures at the American Institute of Chemistry in 1987.

Background Note

Daniel Wayne Fox was born May 14, 1923 in Johnstown, PA. After serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1942-1945, he attended Lebanon Valley College and received his B.S. in Chemistry in 1949. He then studied at the University of Oklahoma where he received his M.S. and Ph.D. After a short period at the Oklahoma Research Institute doing post-doctoral research, Fox began his career at General Electric in 1953 as a chemist and worked on various projects, including polycarbonates, PPPO, PBT, and the development of Lexan and Ultem until his retirement in 1983. He received numerous honors during his career including the Steinmetz award (1973), induction in the Plastics Hall of Fame (1976), the National Academy of Engineers (1984), and the International award from the Society of Plastic Engineers (1985). Daniel Fox died on February 15, 1989 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
