Summary

This collection contains 4" x 6" color photographs of presenters and attendees at the American Chemical Society Steroid Symposium and Dexter Luncheon. The photographs were taken by Leon Gortler and picture Gortler, Ralph Hirschmann, Ewart Ray Herbert (E.R.H.) Jones, Arthur Birch, Konrad Bloch, George Rosenkranz, Carl Djerassi, Frank Colton, John Hogg, Josef Fried, Koji Nakanishi, Seymour and Mrs. Bernstein, Alejandro (Alex) Zaffaroni, Pedro Lehmann, Gilbert Stork, Jeff Sturchies, and Hattie Bradlow. This collection also contains negative strips that include some images of the luncheon as well as miscellaneous photographs and negatives from a gathering in Vermont. The connection of the Vermont photographs to this collection is unclear.

Background Note

The American Chemical Society Steroid Symposium was held in New York City on August 27-28, 1991. It was sponsored by the ACS Divisions of History and Organic Chemistry in conjunction with the Fourth Chemical Congress of North America. Leon Gortler was a co-organizer of this symposium.
