Dyes and dyeing

This is a school type notebook containing five pages of writings and two small black-and-white photographs. The entries are dated June 8, June 12 and June 24, 1942. The notebook details two experiments carried out by Warren G. Schlinger on aluminum alloys and Tintex dye at the end of his sophomore year at Cal Tech.

This notebook contains nearly typed, categorized citations gleaned from Chandler's voluminous readings on the subject.

This is a sheet of dyeing instructions in English, French, and German which was printed by Brooke, Simpson & Spiller.

The manual is divided into sub-sections dealing with the topics Dyestuffs; Cotton; Plastics; Paint; Printing Inks; and a Miscellaneous Application section. This final section contains information on the coloring and dyeing of diverse items, such as Anodized Aluminum, Paper, Soaps and Detergents, Shoe Polishes, Gasoline, Rubber and Smoke.

These are specimen cards printed for members of the printing trade to show the variety of color inks being offered by H. Kohnstamm & Co.

The material covers all aspects of Herbert Dow's professional career and so serves as a commentary on the early growth of Dow Chemical Company from its founding through to the beginnings of the Great Depression.

This collection consists of chemical company stock certificates owned by various people, as well as receipts and dye samples. The stock certificates in this collection were issued by Newton Chemical Company, Union Dye & Chemical Corporation, Atlantic Tar and Chemical Works Limited, Pennsalt Chemicals Corporation, Dewey and Almy Chemical Company, and The Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Company.

The notebooks contain tentative lecture schedules on a range of topics, including water purification, waste disposal, cleaning and polishing agents stain removal, and aromatic compounds, as well as the procedure for writing out laboratory experiments. Additionally, forty-three laboratory exercises are detailed with topics ranging from stain removal and color-fastness tests, to qualitative analyses of commercial tooth pastes, deodorants, and face creams.
