The William A. Lester, Jr. Papers contain the professional and personal papers of African American theoretical chemist and chemistry educator William A. Lester, Jr. The collection is arranged into the following thirteen series:

Sub-series Description

Arranged alphabetically by subject, this sub-series contains William A. Lester, Jr.’s Jackson State University subject files. These files provide documentation of some of Lester’s activities with Jackson State. Files concerning Lester’s work with the university’s Computational Center for Molecular Structure and Interactions make up the largest component of this sub-series. A handful of files concerning Lester’s involvement in a few other Jackson State research programs, including the Jackson State-Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Joint Program, are also found in this sub-series. A file concerning Lester’s participation in Jackson State’s Videotaped Presentations of Special Topics by Minority Chemists program is also preserved here.

The contents of the Subject Files consist of a variety of materials. Correspondence makes up the largest component of the materials found in this sub-series., Smaller, but noticeable, amounts of proposals and reports are also present in these files. Small amounts of other miscellaneous materials, including, but not limited to, notes, reprints, and publications are preserved here as well.
