Sub-series 3. Reference Files, 1961-1988, undated

Arranged numerically by book chapter and alphabetically by subject, this sub-series contains reference files pertaining to various topics regarding food quality assurance and food safety which were collected and maintained by John E. Stauffer. Stauffer drew upon these files when conducting research for his book Quality Assurance of Food: Ingredients, Processing and Distribution.

Most of these files (specifically those created before 1983) were started by Stauffer while he was working at Stauffer Chemical Company, a few of which he subsequently added material to in his position as President of Stauffer Technology. A few files (specifically those started after 1983) which were created and maintained by him at Stauffer Technology are also present here.

The contents of the Reference Files consist of a variety of materials. Articles, notes, and correspondence are the most common materials found in this sub-series. Smaller, but noticeable, amounts of publications and brochures are also present in these files. Small amounts of other miscellaneous materials, including, but not limited to, Stauffer Chemical Company procedures, papers, and advertisements are preserved here as well.
