Background Note
Louis Anthony Kazal graduated from Seton Hall College in South Orange, New Jersey (1935), and received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey (1940). He was hired by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corporation as a research biochemist where he remained until 1957. In 1957, Kazal joined the staff of the Cardeza Foundation at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He retired from Jefferson Medical College as a Professor of Physiology and an Associate Professor of Medicine in 1978.

Abstract
Correspondence, publications, reprints, grant applications, presentation materials, laboratory notes, and photographs belonging to American chemist Louis A. Kazal. This collection concerns Kazal’s work with blood plasma protein fraction. Box 9 contains the addenda to the collection, which concerns Kazal’s earlier work at the American pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme Corporation.
Acquisition Information
The Louis A. Kazal Papers were donated to the Science History Institute (formerly the Chemical Heritage Foundation) by Louis A. Kazal in two installments: 2004 and 2011.
