This copy of the transcript belonged to Dr. Marvin Marghoses and is lightly annotated by him. Margoshes was a participant in the meeting. The meeting was co-sponsored by the ASTM and the SAS. The ASTM is a voluntary organization concerned with the development of testing standards while the Society for Applied Spectroscopy is a non-profit concerned with the dissemination of information relating to the field of scpectroscopy. The transcript deals mainly with problems related to the ways in which people using mass spectrometry for analysis are trained, and how their various backgrounds can affect their interpretation of data. In the latter portions of the transcript, issues of practical technique nomenclature and the need for uniformity are raised.
