Scope and content

The bulk of the notebook consists of notes relating to Prof. Harts lectures on Chaucers Canterbury Tales, taken down from November 25 through December 16, 1850. Lectures X through XIII are included. There follows a section of notes on Trigonometry and the notebook concludes with 56 pages of notes on Chemistry, covering Lectures II through V. There are an addition three pages loosely laid in, two of which are in French.

Biographical sketch

Furman Davis Holme, son of George Washington Holme and Catherine G. Davis was born in 1834 and attended Central High School in Philadelphia. His father was the owner and proprietor of Box Grove Plantation. Furman D. Holme is described in the U.S. Census of 1870 as a farmer and was still living at Box Grove with his wife and children. Furman D. Holme died there on February 17 1892.

Notebook measuresa 6.5 x 8.25, it has 112-page hardbound notebook consisting of handwritten notes taken at lectures on English Literature Trigonometry and Chemistry at Central High School in Philadelphia. Notebook also contains ink drawings of scientific apparatus.
