Richard E. Smalley notebooks

Richard Errett Smalley was born in Akron, OH on June 6, 1943. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Michigan in 1965 and his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1973. He did postgraduate work at the University of Chicago where he was a pioneer in the development of supersonic laser spectroscopy. He later taught at Rice University and in 1996, he, along with Richard Curl, also of Rice and Harold Krotto from the University of Sussex, was a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of a new form of carbon. He died on October 28 2005.
