Biographical sketch

Robert J. Bauman was a currency collector and a chemical industry consultant. He started collecting paper money in 1980 when he joined the consulting firm of Chem Systems and started to travel internationally. When he retired from Chem Systems in 2008, he had collected more than 13,000 banknotes. Bauman started collecting chemical and petroleum industry currency around 1990 as a discrete series to his currency collection. He started with currency from well known companies such as BASF and Bayer. Over time and after much research, he also discovered and acquired currency from companies that no longer exist or were precursors to the well-known companies currently operating, including, but not limited to, De Haen, Grasselli, Griesheim, Harkortsche, Riedel and Ròˆmer. In addition to currency, Bauman acquired chemical and petroleum company postcards and commemorative medals, which were added to the collection to provide context.
