The collection deals almost entirely with chemistry in the Eighteenth Century. A little over half of the collection consists of papers dealing with aspects of the life and work of Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier.

Biographical sketch
Roger Hahn was born on January 5, 1932. He taught History of Science at the University of California, Berkeley. Among his publications was a biography of Pierre Simon Laplace that appeared in 2005. Prof.Hahn died on May 30 2011.
