Biographical sketch
Soviet Life, originally The USSR, was a magazine published from 1956-1991 by the Government of the Soviet Union and sold in the United States. The magazine was part of an agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union through which they were able to distribute magazines in each other's countries. The United States publication, titled Amerika, was published between 1944-1994. Soviet Life was not meant to be political and highlighted Russian culture, history, and scientific achievements. When the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991, Soviet Life was reborn and became Russian Life, which is still in publication.
