Biographical sketch
John R. Ferraro was born in Chicago, IL. He studied at the Illinois Institute of Technology and Northwestern University and began his career as a supervising chemist at the Kankakee Arsenal in 1941. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Force serving as a meteorologist and achieving the rank of Major. In 1948 he joined the staff of the Argonne National Laboratory. He was a recognized authority in the fields of Raman spectroscopy, Infrared spectroscopy and NMR. A member of both ACS and SAS, her served as President of SAS in 1966 and taught at Canisius College.
