The collection is quite comprehensive within the areas of Haynes' interests. Industrial chemistry and the products created by the chemical industry are its concerns. Photographs and ephemera have been removed and are stored seperately.

Biographical sketch
Williams Nathan Gallup Haynes was born on July 29, 1886 in Detroit, MI. He enrolled at Johns Hopkins University but left without taking a degree. In 1916 he went to work for his father's firm D.O. Haynes ∓ Co. as editorial director of the journal Drug and Chemical Markets. In 1920 he became publisher and in 1926 he split the successful publication into Drugs and Cosmetics Industries and Chemical Industries. In 1928 he established the Chemical Who's Who series which he edited until 1951. In 1939 Haynes sold his interest in his trade journals to concentrate on writing books. He had already several, one of which Chemical Economics, published in 1933, established him as an expert in this field. Between 1945 and 1954 he completed his masterwork, the six-volume American Chemical Industry: A History. Among the awards he received was the Dexter Award. He died at his home in Stonington, CT on November 16, 1970.
