This is a wide-ranging collection in both chronology and content; it contains over 1,500 reprints in English, German, French, Italian and Dutch. The collection covers all aspects of the history of chemistry, but is especially rich in content relating to alchemy and early American chemistry.

Biographical sketch

Wyndham Miles was educated at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy but his antiquarian leanings led to his interest in the study of the history of chemistry and his passion for collecting significant historical texts. He was employed as a science historian at both the Army Chemical Corps and the National Archives. He is an author, editor, past president of the A.C.S. Division of the History of Chemistry and the winner of its Dexter Award in 1971.

This collection was originally the research component of The Williams - Miles History of Chemistry Collection, a gathering of more than 2,000 historical volumes housed at Harding University, Searcy, Arkansas that is recognized by the A.C.S. as a National Historic Chemical Landmark.
