Albert Einstein Letter to Julian H. Krotchner
Scope and Content
The Albert Einstein Letter to Julian H. Krotchner contains three copies of a letter in which Einstein apologizes for his inability to assist a refugee named “Mr. Hochermann” in attempting to enter the United States. Einstein explains in the text of the letter that his own affidavits have recently become unacceptable after issuing several others to friends. At the end of the letter, Einstein suggests to Krotchner that “Mr. Hochermann” inquire for help from the National Refugee Service, with the added reservation that there is probably not much that the National Refugee Service will be able to do. The original letter is written in German and signed by Einstein, with an attached English translation and photocopy of the original.
