This collections consists of 77 philatelic cachets (some duplicates) celebrating various milestones and notable individuals in the history of science collected by Wyndham D. Miles, author, editor, and past president of the American Chemical Society Division of the History of Chemistry. Significant individuals depicted within the collection include obstetrical anesthesiologist Virginia Apgar, social worker Emily Perkins Bissell, marine biologist and conservationist Rachel Carson, and American agricultural scientist and inventor George Washington Carver. The collection also includes several philatelic cachets commemorating the 75th anniversary of the American Chemical Society, as well as a series of envelopes postmarked from towns named after chemical elements and a series of envelopes commemorating U.S. Air Mail service.
