Research notes, lecture notes, correspondence, and photographic materials of American science historian Robert E. Kohler. The materials in this collection concern American physical chemist Gilbert N. Lewis and American organic chemist and Nobel Prize winner Robert Burns Woodward.

This collection consists of copies of Thompson's notes to Paul D. Bartlett's course, Chemistry 17A taught at Harvard University in 1938, and an unpublished translation by Thompson of Paul Karrer's 1927 textbook on organic chemistry.
