The Karrer translation is contained in a Harvard University hardbound notebook. The Bartlett course notes are in the same volume and both are dated 1938. (Karrer was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1937.)

Biographical sketch

Ralph B. Thompson was a 1934 graduate of Southern Illinois Normal University and earned his Masters (1936) and Ph.D. (1938) degrees from Harvard University. An industrial chemist, Thompson holds over 140 patents. He has worked for Universal Oil Products and retired as Manager of Division Research at Nalco Chemical Company. Paul Karrer was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1937 for his research on vitamins. His textbook Lehrbuch der organischen chemie ("Textbook of Organic Chemistry") was first published in 1927 and attained great popularity.

Abstract

This collection consists of copies of Thompson's notes to Paul D. Bartlett's course, Chemistry 17A taught at Harvard University in 1938, and an unpublished translation by Thompson of Paul Karrer's 1927 textbook on organic chemistry.
