Sub-series Description

Arranged alphabetically by subject, this sub-series contains advertisements for various products manufactured by the Beckman concern. The materials in this sub-series shed light on which products the company chose to advertise and provide a look at the advertising methods used to promote them. The materials also provide information regarding the advertising agencies the company used and the magazines the advertisements appeared in.

Most of the advertisements preserved in this sub-series were created by Beckman Instruments, Incorporated. A few advertisements for products manufactured by Coulter Electronics, Incorporated, National Technical Laboratories, and SmithKline Beckman Corporation are also included here. A couple of advertisements created by Shell Oil Company (an early user of Beckman spectrophotometers), Shockley Transistor (a spin-off of Beckman Instruments, Incorporated), and VWR Scientific, Incorporated (a distributor of Beckman products) are also preserved in this sub-series.

The contents of the files in the Advertisements sub-series consist almost solely of magazine advertisement reprints. A very small number of magazine clippings and newspaper clippings of advertisements are found in these files as well.
