The Papers of Jerome B. Schapiro contain organizational records collected and maintained by American chemical engineer and dry cleaning industry executive Jerome B. Schapiro. The files in this collection document Schapiro’s involvement with several policy making and advocacy organizations concerned with textile product and safety standards. The collection is arranged into the following six series:

Series Description

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is an American non-profit organization that oversees standards and conformity assessment activities in the United States. Founded in 1918, ANSI’s mission is “to enhance both the global competitiveness of U.S. business and the U.S. quality of life by promoting and facilitating voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems”. ANSI is also the official U.S. representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Jerome B. Schapiro was an active member of ANSI, which included serving on its Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

This series contains Jerome B. Schapiro’s American National Standards Institute files, which document his activities with the organization, including his service on its Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Consisting of two boxes of materials, the contents of each individual box are arranged chronologically by year. The contents of the files in this series include correspondence, reports, minutes, and financial documents.
